What makes laudis special

Education has remained largely unchanged in the last 100 years

Lectures became videos, and books are now blog posts. Yet, the underlying principles of teaching remain the same. The science of effective learning has been conclusive for over 20 years. Yet, when applied, it is usually as a gimmick or as an afterthought.

Brief summary of the science

To oversimplify: "The more effort it takes you to learn something, the more you will remember it".

We only remember about 20% of what we passively learn by the next day. By using techniques such as "active recall", "spaced repetition" and "interleaving" we can get that number up to 90%. With pretty much the same time effort.

Mental modals over memorizing

Default courses focus on transmitting information. This is the intuitive approach but a flawed one. If we want to use our new knowledge in the real world we need robust mental models that allow you to adapt your knowledge to knew situations.

Project based, but not dumbed down

The best approach that encompasses all of these principles is "project based learning". While many courses try to take this approach, few actually manage to implement it without making the excercises feel trivial or gimmicky.
